about — Maksim Axelrod

Maksim Axelrod experiences life, love, laughs, and loss in a fraction of a second. With a delicate eye and infectious spirit, he gives moments the opportunity to dwell in space and time infinitely, passing down stories like folklore that capture what it means to be alive and human in an ever-changing world. Axelrod’s art embodies a passion for life and people which cultivates conversations of culture and individuality. It is visual poetry and an emboldened statement of perfected imperfection, which pulls from its viewers genuine reactions that linger like summer days.

From that moment forward, Axelrod never left the house without his camera. Inspired by the words of Christopher Morley, Axelrod found purpose in highlighting the shadowed features of passerby's and contrasting the madness found in grimly textured urban areas where the vibrance of the city is hidden in the souls of the people and their rituals. This is evident in the hundreds of prints he has sold, which hang on walls, are shown on websites, and placed in Galleries. Though deeply knowledgeable in his field, Axelrod continues to grow through collaboration, travel, and experience. Shooting primarily with film, he challenges himself to find the extraordinary in the ordinary, constantly gripping hold to the potential of every fleeting instant.

He currently resides in Brooklyn, New York, where he works full-time as a freelance photographer
